Football bet types are the different ways to bet on one match, such as the final result, the exact score or the total number of goals. This guide explains each common market in plain words, so you know what a bet means before you place it. For other markets, see our sports betting pages.
What is football betting?
Football betting means placing a wager on what happens in a match. It can be done through bookmakers or online betting sites. Fans are no longer limited to the final result or the number of goals, because there are many bet types and markets to choose from.
Common football bet types
What is 1X2?
1X2, also known as 3-Way Moneyline, is the simplest football bet type and a common starting point for beginners. You bet on the final match result, which has three outcomes: home team wins (1), draw (X) or away team wins (2).

What is Correct Score?
Correct Score is a harder version of 1X2. You guess the exact score of each team. Odds are usually higher than 1X2 because the exact score is much harder to predict. Correct Score normally applies to the 90 minutes of play only, so extra time and penalties are not included.
What is Over/Under (OU)?
Over/Under is a bet on the total number of goals in the match. You choose whether the final total will be above (Over) or below (Under) a line set by the bookmaker. For example, with a line of Over 1.5 you win if the match has two or more goals in total. Under 1.5 wins if there are fewer than two goals.
What is Odd/Even?
Odd/Even is a bet on whether the total goals scored by both teams is an odd or an even number. You win an Odd bet if the total is 1,3,5,7 and so on, and an Even bet if it is any even number. A 0-0 draw counts as Even.
Goal markets
Football is all about goals, so there are also markets on how many goals are scored and who scores them, such as total goals, the first or last goalscorer, or the team that scores the most.
Total Goals and First Half Total Goals
Total Goals is a bet on the number of goals scored in the whole match. First Half Total Goals is the same bet, but only counts goals scored in the first half.
First Goal and Last Goal
First Goal/Last Goal is a bet on which team scores the first or the last goal. You can also bet on the First or Last Goalscorer, which means picking the specific player who scores first or last. Extra time and penalty shootouts are usually not counted, so check the rules of the site you use.
Goals Over/Under
Goals Over/Under works like Over/Under, with the line set on the number of goals. For example, with a line of Over 2.5 you win if the match has three or more goals, and Under 2.5 wins if there are two goals or fewer.
How to pick a bet type
If you are new, start with 1X2 because it has only three outcomes and is easy to follow. Move to Over/Under or Correct Score once you understand how lines and odds work. Markets and rules differ between sites, so read the rules of each bet before you play. Only bet what you can afford to lose, and read our responsible gaming page.
